Anick Soni (born 1995), known as "Anick", is a British intersex activist. In 2018, he released "The Intersex Diaries", a short film which looks at him meeting other intersex people for the first time.[1]. He has a degree in Law from University of Westminster [2] and is currently studying Childhood and Children’s Rights from a multi-disciplinary perspective at University College London.[3]. His area of focus is on how to support children and caregivers who are impacted by variations of sex development.[4]

Anick has been involved with intersex activism publicly since 2017, revealing his story first on Buzzfeed.[5] He was born premature and diagnosed with a variety of conditions including Hypospadias, Microphallus, Partial Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome (PAIS) growing up. Anick has stated his first surgeries on his genitals began at 4 months old and continued throughout childhood. By 21, he had discovered that he was 'intersex' through his medical records which he previously did not have access to. Having decided to continue having cosmetic procedures as an adult, he describes himself as "pro-consent" and not "anti-surgery", though he advocates strongly against making irreversible changes to children's genitalia without life-saving need.[6] In 2019, he won 'British Community Trailblazer Award' at Gay Times Honours 500 in recognition for his work on intersex activism within the LGBT+ community.[7]. Since 2018, he has organised marches at London Pride for intersex awareness with fellow activists and allies. This group became a registered charity in 2020 and is now known as 'InterconnectedUK (iConUK)'[8]. Whilst acknowledging that intersex is not necessarily a 'LGBT+' issue, as a bisexual, he feels comfortable speaking about this intersectionality.[9].

To date, his story has been shared on platforms such as BBC News [10], HuffPost [11] Teen Vogue [12], Telegraph [13] and more.
