Animal Kingdom (company)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Animal Kingdom is a Brooklyn-based film production company that was founded in 2012 by producers Joshua Astrachan and David Kaplan alongside Wall Street veteran Frederick W. Green.[1][2] The group is responsible for a catalog of American independent films that have premiered at and received accolades from a range of international film festivals — from Sundance to Toronto to main competition in Cannes.[3][4][5]

The first film produced under the Animal Kingdom banner was Short Term 12, created by writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton and starring Brie Larson, John Gallagher Jr., Kaitlyn Dever, Rami Malek and Lakeith Stanfield. The film premiered at South by Southwest in 2013, where it received the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature, and went on to have an international premiere at Locarno.[6]

Animal Kingdom’s subsequent films have featured actors such as Adam Driver, Vanessa Kirby, Isabelle Huppert, Gabriel Byrne, Jesse Eisenberg, Rachel Brosnahan, Joel Edgerton, Steve Buscemi, Selena Gomez, Bill Murray, Chloë Sevigny,[7][8][9][10][11] and Academy Award winners Mahershala Ali and Tilda Swinton.[12][13] The company's films have been distributed by A24, Focus Features, Netflix, Amazon, NEON and The Orchard.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20]

In 2016, Animal Kingdom began development on its first project for television, an adaptation of David Carr's memoir The Night of the Gun, starring Bob Odenkirk.[21]

Animal Kingdom inked a two-year first-look deal with studio partner Focus Features in 2015.[22] In 2018, the company announced the closing of a capital investment from Vancouver-based BRON Ventures, a division of Bron Studios.[23]
