Animenz (Original name: Mike Guo; born 13 March 1991) is a classically trained pianist who arranges and performs the music of Anime, including Openings, Endings, and Soundtracks.[1].
He is considered by many as one of the most famous and accomplished classical pianist of anime music around the world[2].
He has stated that his goal is to create a future that Anime music that can be appreciated like "Classic Music" in hundreds of years and beyond[3].
Early Life[edit]
Animenz was born in Bad Urah, Germany, and raised in Metzingen, Germany, on 13 March 1991[4]. His parents immigrated from China to Germany in the 1990s[5].
He showed his interest in music at the age of three when he was attracted by the music played by his neighbor[2]. Later when he was five years old, he began to have piano classes and won his first competition, “Jugend Musiziert”, by the age of six[2]. He is gifted with the ability to play the music that he once heard[2]. At the age of 16, he was invited by the famous symphony orchestra in Romania, "Botosani National Philharmonic", to perform The Symphony No.3 in E flat major, Op.55. After the public tour around Germany and Romania, his performance made the media call him "The Talented Pianist from the Metzingen"[5].
He started his musical studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock[6]. Stephan Imorde and Oleksiy Kushnir are his teachers[7]
In 2009, he began performing anime music. In 2010, he started to arrange Anime music and published his videos on Youtube.[7]
Concerts around the world[edit]
He has given more than 100 concerts in more than 30 countries around Asia and Europe, including Singapore, China, Japan, and South Korea.[7]
Activities on the social media[edit]
Animenz's solo piano arrangements of anime theme songs include the elements of classical pianism. He also shares insight on his techniques of arranging with his followers, which attracts a large group of young musicians and anime fans who love anime piano music.[6]
In most of his performances, he uses the Steinway D-274 Grand Piano and the best possible microphones to record, publishing on Youtube and Bilibili.[1]
As of May 19, 2024, he has 2.2 million fans on Youtube.[8] and 2.4 million fans on Bilibili[9]. "Unravel" is one of his most popular arrangements, which had been viewed over 95 million times on Youtube[8] and 15.57 million times on Bilibili[9]
