Animenz (Original name: Mike Guo; born 13 March 1991) is a classically trained pianist who arranges and performs the music of Anime, including Openings, Endings, and Soundtracks.[1].
He is considered by many as one of the most famous and accomplished classical pianists of anime music around the world[2].
He has stated that his goal is to create a future where Anime music can be appreciated like "Classic Music" in hundreds of years and beyond[3].
Early Life
Animenz was born in Bad Urach, Germany, and raised in Metzingen, Germany, on 13 March 1991[4]. His parents immigrated from China to Germany in the 1990s[5].
He showed his interest in music at the age of three when he was attracted by the music played by his neighbor[2]. Later, when he was five years old, he began to have piano classes and won his first competition, “Jugend Musiziert”, by the age of six[2]. He is gifted with the ability to play the music that he once heard[2]. At the age of 16, he was invited by the famous symphony orchestra in Romania, "Botosani National Philharmonic", to perform The Symphony No.3 in E flat major, Op.55. After the public tour around Germany and Romania, his performance made the media call him "The Talented Pianist from the Metzingen"[5].
He started his musical studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock[6]. Stephan Imorde and Oleksiy Kushnir are his teachers[7]
In 2009, he began performing anime music. In 2010, he started to arrange Anime music and published his videos on Youtube.[7]
Concerts around the world
He has given more than 100 concerts in more than 30 countries around Asia and Europe, including Singapore, China, Japan, and South Korea.[7]
Activities on the social media
Animenz's solo piano arrangements of anime theme songs include the elements of classical pianism. He also shares insight on his techniques of arranging with his followers, which attracts a large group of young musicians and anime fans who love anime piano music.[6]
In most of his performances, he uses the Steinway D-274 Grand Piano and the best possible microphones to record, publishing on Youtube and Bilibili.[1]
As of May 19, 2024, he has 2.2 million fans on Youtube.[8] and 2.4 million fans on Bilibili[9]. "Unravel" is one of his most popular arrangements, which had been viewed over 95 million times on Youtube[8] and 15.57 million times on Bilibili[9]
