Anirban Chakraborty, is the CEO and Managing Director of Tourism Finance Corporation of India Ltd. (TFCl) since April 2019. Prior to joining TFCI, Anirban worked as Deputy CEO at Axis Capital, where he developed Transformational Roadmap from the ECM focused Investment Banking house to an advisory led Investment Banking model. This comprised the advisory practices like Mergers and Acquisitions, Private Equity Placements, Debt Capital Market, and so on, leading to a diversified investment bank.

Early life and background

Born in a family of academicians (his father was a Headmaster in Government School and his mother, a school teacher), Anirban was naturally inclined towards studies. He developed a liking towards numbers pretty early, during his schooling in Calcutta in India which culminated into graduating as an engineer and later a Banker During his free time, he loves reading fiction and listening to classical Hindi and Rabindra Sangeet. He has two siblings (1 brother and 1 sister)

Career

Having started his career in 1993 with Voltas Ltd. (a Tata Group Company), Anirban explored a diverse range of targeted work domains including Business Development, Techno Feasibility Assessment of Projects, and Project Implementation. Following this, he expanded his reach and worked with IFCI (1999-2003). There, he advised numerous diverse corporates on assignments of various product offerings as that of Due Diligence, Capital Restructuring, Loan Syndication, Credit Monitoring, Financial Advisory, and Project Appraisal.

He joined Axis Bank in 2003 and worked his way up to attain the position of Executive Vice President by 2014. He headed various divisions from SME, Relationship Management Group, Corporate Debt, Capital Market, and Structured Finance. Anirban was instrumental in setting up the Structured Finance department at Axis. He then moved to Axis Capital Ltd (Axis Bank's Investment Banking arm) and climbed up the ladder to become its Deputy CEO in 2018.

Presently, he is heading TFCI since April 2019. At TFCI, he has introduced structural changes in order to put the organization in a high growth trajectory. Popular for his infectious energy levels amongst his peers, he is overhauling various processes like, Appraisal & Monitoring mechanism, Business development, IT systems, HR policies, amongst others. He is also focusing to set-up an advisory-led investment banking process at TFCI.

Achievements

• Student of the Year B.Tech (1993) National Scholarship Holder (in 10th & 12th)

• Anirban was awarded as a 'Charter Engineer' by the Institution of Engineers (India) in 1993.
