Anita Gonzalez is an American writer, director, and educator known for her works that discuss human identity, focusing on race, ethnicity, gender, and nationality. She has received various awards including the Shirley Verrett Award and the Distinguished Faculty Achievement Award from the University of Michigan.[1]

Gonzalez was born to Campbell Gonzalez and raised in New Jersey, where she developed her passion for art and education. Her work is supported by various foundations including the Rockefeller Foundation, the Mid Atlantic Arts Association, and the Bellagio Center.[1]
