Anita Rios

Anita Rios (born 1944) is an American politician and activist from Ohio. A Green, Rios has run for office several times, including for Lieutenant Governor in 2006 and 2010 as well as for Governor in 2014.[1] An initial poll gave Rios 4% of the vote statewide against Republican incumbent John Kasich and Democrat Ed FitzGerald. Rios qualified for the 2014 general election ballot after winning the Green Party primary as a write-in candidate after more than 500 voters wrote in Rios for Governor in the May primary.[2]

Rios is the Ohio President of the National Organization for Women.[3][4] Rios serves on the board of the Green Institute.

Personal[edit]

Rios was born, raised and resides in Toledo, Ohio. She is the daughter of Mexican American farm workers and Spanish is her first language.[5] Rios has been married to Robert Hannon, co-founder of the Toledo City Bike Co-Op since 1982.[6] She graduated from the University of Toledo in 1986.
