Anita Smirnova (Russian: Анита Смирнова Сергеевна; Chinese: 阿妮塔; born 22 April 1992) is an Estonian film actress of Russian and Korean origin. She is known for her film and TV appearances in China.[1] Smirnova made her TV debut in True Color of Beauty (2016) and her film carreer began with playing the lead in International Manhunt (2016) CCTV6 film.[2] In early 2018 she was cast to play Phyl 'Fayer' Decard in One Boat One World, which became a national hit in China after premiering in 2021.[3]

Biography[edit]

Anita Smirnova was born on 22 April, 1992, in Tallinn, Estonia. On her father's side, she is of Russian and Ukrainian descent, while on her mother's side she has Russian and Korean ancestry. Anita attended Tallinn High School of Humanities (1999-2011) and moved to Shanghai, China to study Mandarin at Fudan University upon finishing high school. She also attended Shanghai Theatre Academy Mandarin and acting classes and got her Bachelor's degree in fashion studies from Mod'Art International Paris at Shanghai University. In 2015 she moved to Beijing to start her professional acting career.[4]

Career[edit]

Anita started acting in TV commercials while studying Mandarin at Fudan University. Her first commercial was for Union Pay, which was later broadcasted on the Shanghai metro. In 2014, she auditioned for the role of an American journalist Grace in True Color of Beauty and got the role. In 2015, she was cast to play the lead role of a police officer Natasha in International Manhunt.[5] She moved to Beijing in late 2015 and was cast to play in her first action film Buddies in India alongside Wang Baoqiang in 2016. TV series One Boat One World (also known as 海洋之城), where Smirnova plays the bartender Phyl 'Fayer' Decard became a national hit by taking the first place in the TV ratings.[6] In 2021, Anita got cast to play Ksenja in TV3 Estonian network new drama series.[7]

Charity work[edit]

In 2019 Smirnova worked with the charity organization Stepping Stones, teaching English to children from underprivileged families in Shanghai. She also donated part of her True Color of Beauty salary to Roots and Shoots charity and collaborated with Make a Wish Foundation in China.[8]
