Anjali Ameer was born in [1] Thamarassery, Kozhikode Calicut, Kerala in an orthodox Muslim family. She is the first Transgender or Transsexual actress to play a key role in Indian film. Her first film is Peranbu with the Malayalam's Superstar Mammootty[2]. She is a model turned actress who underwent Sex reassignment surgery at the age of 20.
Personal life
Ameer was born as a male child in a Muslim family. She lost her mother at a young age and her father a couple of years ago. As a child, Anjali showed feminine characteristics and wanted to become a girl. Acting and dance were her passions. After 10th grade, she ran away from her hometown to Bangalore and then to Coimbatore to become a female. At the age of 20, she underwent sex reassignment surgery and became a woman. She worked in call centers, beauty parlors, etc.
Acting career
As most transgenders end their lives in prostitution, dancing, or begging, Anjali and her courage allowed her to reach a good stage as a model and then as an actress. She anchored many TV shows, and not many people, including her manager, knew that she was transsexual.
After watching an interview on [Manorama News][3] Channel, Mammootty invited her to act in the film [Peranbu][4]. Peranbu [5] which will be released in Malayalam and Tamil will be her first film. She is playing the role of a Malayali girl called Meera[6] in this film. She is getting a lot of offers from Tamil and Telugu after being cast in this film. She has acted and anchored in many Tamil and Telugu television programs.
