Ann Corkery is an American attorney and political activist. known as the founder of the Wellspring Committee, a right-wing activist organization. She was born in 1961.[1]

Education and Early Career[edit]

Corkery received her J.D. from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.[2] She then clerked for Eric Bruggink at the Federal Claims Court.

Career[edit]

For ten years, Corkery was a senior advisor to Robin Arkley II, President and CEO of Security National Servicing Corporation.[2]

In 2003, George W. Bush appointed herUnited States Alternate Representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations. In this capacity, she advocated against the use of stem-cells from embryos in the development of medical therapies.[3] he also made her a delegate to the UN Commission on the Status of Women

In 2005, Corkery founded the Judicial Confirmation Network, the fore-runner to the Judicial Crisis Network.[4] In that capacity, she played an important role in securing the confirmations of Samuel Alito and John Roberts to the United States Supreme Court.[5]

In 2007, Mitt Romney made Corkery a chair of his National Faith And Values Steering Committee, a vice chair for his National Women For Mitt Finance Committee.[6][7]

From its founding in 2008, Ann Corkery was the Principal of the Wellspring Committee.[8] Corkery was the director of the Catholic League, headed by Bill Donohue.[9] She was also and a board member of Hobby Lobby’s law firm, The Becket Fund.[9]

In 2015, Corkery was a partner at Stein Mitchell Cipollone Beato & Missner LLP.[2] After the departure of Pat Cipollone to work for Donald Trump, the firm became known as Stein Mitchell Beato & Meissner; she is still a member of this firm.[10]

The Wellspring Committee[edit]

The Wellspring Committee was founded in 2008 by Ann Corkery, who served as its first Principal.[11] From 2012 to 2014, Ann Corkery was the President of Wellspring Committee, her daughter, Kathleen Corkery, was the Director.[12][13] In 2015, Ann Corkery was the sole board member of the Wellspring Committee. From 2016 to 2018, its sole board member was Corkery's husband, Neil Corkery.

Between 2010 and 2017, its total revenue exceeded $85,000,000. During its ten years of existence, the Wellspring Committee accounted for more than 90% of the financial support behind the Judicial Crisis Network.[14][15] In 2015, Wellspring donated $5.75 million to the Judicial Crisis Network in 2015, apparently accounting for the entirety of the JCN's budget that year. The Wellspring Committee was closely connected to the Koch Brothers, as well as Paul Singer and John Templeton Jr.[17][11] In November 2016, the Wellspring Committee filed tax documents showing a $750,000 payment to BH Group firm for “Public Relations.”[18] The BH Group does not appear to marketed itself as a public relations firm, has no known website, and does not advertise its services.[18] Similarly, Wellspring Committee has no known public-facing operations and no website.[18] In 2017, Wellspring paid $919,900 for consulting work to BH Group.[19] Leonard Leo, a close ally of the Judicial Crisis Network, is an employee of the BH Group.[20][19]

Personal Life[edit]

Ann Corkery is married to activist Neil Corkery, the former treasurer of the Judicial Confirmation Network.[21] One of Corkery's daughters is Kathleen Corkery, the Director of the Wellspring Committee from 2012 to 2014.

In the 1990s, Ann Corkery was a member of Opus Dei.[22]
