Anna Balkanska
Anna Jordanova Balkanska (Bulgarian: Ана Йорданова Балканска) was a Bulgarian archaeologist notable for her work on the 1948–1954 excavations of the Thracian city of Seuthopolis, alongside Lyuba Ognenova-Marinova.[1]
Education[edit]
Anna Balkanska graduated from Sofia University in 1948 with a degree in History, and again in 1951 with a degree in Bibliography and Library Science.[2] She gained her PhD in History in 1979.[2]
She was a research fellow of the Archaeological Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.[3]
Career[edit]
In 1949, she became the head of the library at the National Archaeological Institute and Museum of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, a position she held until 1961.[2]
She was the specialist in Antique Archaeology at the Institute from 1969 to 1984.[2]
Excavations[edit]
She was part of the team excavating the Thracian city of Seuthopolis, alongside Lyuba Ognenova-Marinova, Gergana Canova,[1] Mariya Chichikova,[4] and Dimitar Nikolov.[1]
