Personal Life

Chandy has stated in her book “Battles in the Mind” that, as a young girl, she never saw herself as anything more than someone destined to be a wife and mother[3]. Her exploration of counselling began when her brother-in-law, Thomas, who was suffering from schizophrenia, came to live with her family[2]. Chandy became a volunteer counsellor with Vishwas, a free counselling service based out of Jayanagar, Bengaluru[1]. Through her training and experiences in counselling, Chandy encountered Transactional Analysis, which she credits with helping her understand her behavioural and thought patterns[3]. Chandy has stated that coming from a conflicted home, her childhood experiences and struggles had contributed to her feelings of worthlessness and self-disgust, which in turn manifested as a desperate need to be considered perfect[4]. As a result of her trying childhood, Chandy shares a difficult relationship with her mother[4].

Chandy is also a survivor of sexual abuse inflicted upon her as a child, memories of which she had blocked[4]. In her book, she writes that her personal work in Transactional Analysis had allowed her to confront her memories of abuse[3].

Chandy has been a Certified Transactional Analyst since 2007 and a Certified Training and Supervising Transactional Analyst since 2015 from the International Transaction Analysis Association[2].
