Anna Corvera[edit]

Anna Corvera is a dance instructor who has taught at New York University, Casper College[1], and currently teaches at Millikin University, as well as at multiple dance studios.

Early Life[edit]

Anna Corvera grew up in St. Louis, MO where she got her start dancing with the St. Louis MUNY Opera, St. Louis Cultural Flamenco Society, Bolivian Folkloric Society, and Six Flags St. Louis. After graduating high school, she earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign in 2005 and a Masters in Fine Arts in Dance Performance and Choreography from The College at Brockport, State University of New York in 2013. Anna continued to study dance in New York City at The Ailey School, Steps on Broadway, as well as at the Merce Cunningham Studios.

She has performed the works of Bill Evans, Dr. Darwin Prioleau, Telly Fowler, Clyde Morgan, and Cheryl Johnson, as well as performed with The Lucky Artist Theater Company and Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble.[2]

Career[edit]

Anna’s choreography credits include: CATS[3], Pippin, Urinetown, and Lysistrata (an ad-rap-tation[4]) for Casper College; L’Histoire du Soldat for the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra; The Waste Land for Theatre of the Poor; Singin’ in the Rain Jr. for the Decatur Park District; the 2006 Winter Olympics commercial campaign for Coca Cola; Ryan Star’s debut music video Right Now for Atlantic Records; and individual works for Dança Nova Dance Company and the Brockport Symphony Orchestra. She has been presented at the American College Dance Festival, American College Theatre Festival, and multiple state thespian conferences. She also has judged dance and cheerleading competitions in the past as a member of the National Dance Education Organization.

She currently works as an instructor of dance at Millikin University and can be found teaching ballet, modern, jazz, tap, choreography, or ensemble dance. At Millikin, she has co-directed Equinox: A Concert of Dance[5], and choreographed Heathers[6], 9 to 5[7], and "Chart Hits" in Mr. Burns, a post-electric play[8].[9]
