Anna Jahn

Anna Irene Jahn (born July 7, 1980 in Berlin) is a German-Canadian professional working in leadership development and executive education. She is currently the director of Learning Programs and the Action Canada Fellowship Program at the Public Policy Forum.[1] Prior to joining the Public Policy Forum, she worked at the University of Ottawa as the Manager for the Certificate Program at the Centre on Public Management and Policy. Anna attended the Free University of Berlin and obtained an M.A. in social anthropology and African history. In 2009, Anna moved to Canada with her husband, Christoph Zuercher, and two children. She has lived in Ottawa since then.

Early Life

Anna was born in Berlin to Peter Jahn and Dorothea Jaessrich; she is a third-generation Berliner. She grew up in the Bayerisches Viertel in what was formerly West Berlin. At the age of sixteen, Anna participated in an exchange program and spent a year in Togo. This experience spurred her interest in African history and culture.

Education

Anna attended the Heinrich-von-Kleist-Gymnasium in Berlin. After graduating high school, Anna enrolled at the Free University of Berlin. She participated in the Erasmus exchange program and studied for a term at the Université de Provence, France. Between 2004 and 2006, she held a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes. She graduated in 2007 with an M.A. degree in Social Anthropology, Sociology, and African Studies. Her master’s thesis investigated the topic of secondary education in Benin. For her research, Anna spent four months in Benin.

Career

Career in Germany

In 2007, Anna was a junior professional at the German National Academic Foundation.

After graduating university, Ms. Jahn worked as the Program Manager for the ESMT.

University of Ottawa

She worked as a Marketing and Communication Officer at the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Ottawa. Subsequently, she worked as the Manager for the Certificate Program and was responsible for other courses at the Centre on Public Management and Policy.

Public Policy Forum

In 2016, she joined the Public Policy Forum (PPF), where she worked as the director of Partnerships and Membership. Since 2018, she has worked as director of Learning Programs and the Action Canada Fellowship Program. Action Canada is a highly competitive program that selects up to 20 emerging leaders to become Action Canada Fellows. They are the top candidates from a nationwide call for applications. An integral part of the program is the innovative and immersive study tours. Anna currently heads the PPF's diversity and inclusion working group.

Board Memberships

Anna has been on the board of directors as Vice President and an executive committee member for the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra since 2017[2]. She was elected for a two-year term to the board of directors of the German Language School Ottawa in 2017[3]. She is also a member of the Canadian Program Advisory Committee of the Canadian Ditchley Foundation[4]

Personal Life

Anna is married to Swiss-Canadian social scientist, Christoph Zuercher. Christoph is a professor at the University of Ottawa[5]. They have two children, born in 2004 and 2006.
