Anna Alicja Mazurkiewicz (b. 1975 in Gdansk), is a Polish historian, Assistant Professor at the University of Gdansk, Poland.[1] Graduate of the University of Gdansk (MA 1999; PhD 2006) she obtained her advanced degree (habilitacja) in 2017 (dr hab.), assuming the post of Associate Professor in 2018.[2]

Her scholarly interests include: the Cold War; the United States after World War II; U.S.-Polish diplomatic relations; media system in the United States; U.S. policy towards the countries of East Central Europe; political activity of refugees from East Central Europe in the United States after World War II; political emigration from East Central Europe in 1945-1989.

As the Kosciuszko Foundation Fellow, she taught and conducted research at multiple American universities (University of Minnesota, State University of New York at Buffalo, Valdosta State University). She was a Senior Fulbright Fellow at the Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies (Stanford University) where she worked on the collections of the Hoover Institution Archives.[3] She was also a fellow of the Visegrad Fund (Open Society Archives/Central European University in Budapest) and the American Polish Research Fellowship at the University of Notre Dame (Indiana, USA).

She is the author of three books (in Polish): Dyplomacja Stanów Zjednoczonych wobec wyborów w Polsce w latach 1947 i 1989 (2007), Prasa amerykańska wobec wyborów w Polsce w latach 1947 i 1989 (2009), Uchodźcy polityczni z Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej w amerykańskiej polityce zimnowojennej (1948–1954) (2016).[4] Her last monograph was recognized as the best book on American history published in a language other than English by the Organization of American Historians (Willi Paul Adams Award, 2019).[5]

Her publications in English include; "Relationship between the Assembly of Captive European Nations and the Free Europe Committee in 1950–1960 (2013), Join, or Die’ – the Road to Cooperation Among East European Exiled Political Leaders in the United States, 1949–1954" (2012).[6] She is the editor of volumes related to migration; East Central Europe in Exile, vol. 1: Transatlantic Migrations, vol. 2: Transatlantic Identities[7] (2013), which won the Oskar Halecki Prize, as well as a reference publication released by DeGruyter East Central European Migrations During the Cold War. A Handbook (2019).

She is the past President of the Polish American Historical Association[8][9] In 2019, she received the Miecislaus Haiman Medal from that organization. She is also a member of the Association for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies, Polish Historical Association (Polskie Towarzystwo Historyczne), Commission for the Study of Polish Diaspora at the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAU), Committee on Migration Research of the Polish Academy of Science (KBnM PAN). She currently serves as a Fulbright Program Ambassador in Gdansk.[10]
