Anna Shtorm /ˈʃtɒrm/ (born 7 July 1987) is a Russian poet and writer published [1] on Medium.
Biography
Anna Shtorm was born in Leningrad, USSR. She moved to the city of Penza at the age of 4 when her mother decided to leave her father. At this age, she was already encouraged to write poems by her grandmother, who had an extremely big impact on Anna`s creative talent. She went to Linguistic gymnasium 6 and studied newspaper production in Municipal Professional Training Inter school Center #6. By the age of 13, she was writing poems, short non-fiction, and fiction stories. Despite that creative writing came naturally, Anna dreamed of becoming a pathologist, but her mom persisted in her pursuing a career in journalism and teaching, as it was a "safe choice". She graduated with a Master's degree in Journalism from Penza State Teaching Training University in 2011. During her studies, she worked for different newspapers and magazines in Penza. From 2006 till 2008, she lived in the United States. In 2011, she went to Poland for one year for an internship. In 2014, she moved to Poland and started her career in IT, in addition to her writing career.
Writing Career
- Since 2019, most of Anna`s work is published on Medium. She writes poems, articles, and non-fiction stories with a fiction twist. She is a writer for Medium publications such as The Creative Cafe, ILLUMINATION, The Ascent, and many more.
- In 2012, Anna worked for "Szczecin in Progress" magazine in Szczecin, Poland. She was writing articles for the magazine, taking photos, and creating interactive photo projects such as ” Festiwal twarzy”.
- In 2011, Anna was a guest writer in Viehebdomadaires blog.
- During the period of 2005-2006, Anna worked for “Details” magazine in Penza, Russia. She wrote articles on various subjects, conducted interviews, and developed a creative road map for a personal column.
- From 2002 till 2004 in Penza, Russia, she worked as a journalist for “Fifth corner” newspaper in Penza. Since the age of 13, Anna`ve been writing stories, poems, and lyrics for her songs. She took part in different school and city competitions. Thanks to one of them, she was offered work as a journalist in “Fifth corner” newspaper in Penza.

Volunteering activities
- In 2014, Anna came as a volunteer [2] in Wroclaw to take part in the European Volunteering Service project “Organize Brave Kids with us”. This project is part of the Brave Kids Brave Festival. She was responsible for fundraising, logistics, creating a program for artistic leaders, editing the website[3], translations, copy writing, creating documentary films[4]. She developed the script and produced the documentary film Brave Kids' Leaders. A year later, she also produced the documentary film Brave Kids' Leaders 2015: Making it happen.
- In 2012, she was a volunteer at NGO “Polites”. Anna was creating short video [5] presentations, radio spots, reportage photography of NGO events. She was also a mentor for two EVS volunteers, which involved ongoing evaluation and constant support in social and cultural adaptation for them during the project.
- In 2012, Anna worked as a photographer and journalist at NGO magazine “Szczecin in Progress”. She was writing articles for the magazine, taking photos, and creating interactive photo projects such as ” Festiwal twarzy”.
- In 2011, Anna took part in the Social project “Enter Your Future” organized by AIESEC Local Committee Bialystok. “Enter Your Future” was a social project for high school students about tolerance and cultural differences.
- In 2009, Anna participated in the work camp “Patrimony through the lens” organized by Instituto Portugues de Juventude in Portugal. With other participants, she created a photo exhibition using different methods of photography, including taking photos with pinhole, analog, and digital cameras.
