Anna Viktorovna Zassimova (* 27th of October 1976 in Moscow) is a German-Russian pianist, also a painter, art historian, and music teacher. She has lived in Germany since 2002.
Life and Works
Anna Zassimova was born in Moscow. She studied piano with Vladimir Tropp at the Gnessin Music Academy in Moscow and with Michael Uhde and Markus Stange at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe. She earned a doctorate in musicology and trained as an art historian.[1]
Zassimova has given solo and chamber music concerts at international festivals such as the Ruhr Piano Festival, Piano à Saint-Ursanne, the Bloomsbury Festival in London, the Heidelberger Frühling, Musica Viva Munich and ECLAT Stuttgart. As an orchestral soloist, she has performed with the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Mannheim National Theater, and the Heilbronn Symphony Orchestra, among others. Zassimova has made concert tours to Russia, the USA and China and played in famous venues such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg [2].
Zassimova recorded several CDs. Among them were also several first recordings. The main focus of her discography is fin de siècle piano and chamber music in Russia, as well as works by Frédéric Chopin. She recorded chamber music works by Georges Catoire as well as all piano chamber music works by Sergey Taneyev. The rediscovery of the aforementioned Russian-French composer Georges Catoire was clearly associated with Anna Zassimova. Her book on Catoire's life and work (2011) opens, "a new look at this pioneer of Russian modernism." Her CD "Sonata Reminiscenza" (Hänßler Classic, 2018) was nominated for the "Opus Classic" award in Germany in 2019. Her latest CDs were published by Melism in Paris with Dvorak 4 hands piano music and a solo recital called "Fantasiebilder aus Wien".
Since 2007, Zassimova has served as a lecturer at the Karlsruhe University of Music. She gives international master classes in piano. She participated several times in the competition Jugend musiziert as a juror. As a musician and art historian, she supports and promotes the cooperation between the Karlsruhe University of Music and the Staatliche Kunsthalle Karlsruhe. She participates in interdisciplinary projects that interweave visual arts and music. In moderated piano concerts she combines the presentation of composers and visual artists of the art nouveau and fin de siècle period of Russian art[3]
