Anne FitzRoy, Duchess of Southampton and Cleveland
Anne Pulteney (25 November 1663-20 February 1746) was the second wife of Charles FitzRoy, Duke of Southampton who became the 2nd Duke of Cleveland in 1709. Anne was the daughter of Sir William Pulteney, of Misterton, Leicestershire, and his wife Grace Corbet, the daughter of Sir John Corbet, 1st Baronet, of Stoke upon Tern and Lady Anne Mainwaring.
Anne was married to Charles FitzRoy, Duke of Southampton in November 1694. He was the illegitimate son of King Charles II of England, Scotland and Ireland and Barbara Villiers, later Duchess of Cleveland. They had six children:
- Lady Grace, born 28 March 1697, married in 1725 Henry Vane, later created Earl of Darlington
- William FitzRoy, 3rd Duke of Cleveland and 2nd Duke of Southampton (19 February 1698 - 18 May 1774)
- Lord Charles Fitzroy (13 February 1698 - 10 August 1723 in Paris)[1]
- Lord Henry Fitzroy, baptized 27 August 1701, buried 29 November 1709[2]
- Lady Anne, born 12 November 1702, married Francis Paddy, Esq.
- Lady Barbara, died unmarried
After her husband's death she married Philip Southcote, Esq., of Chertsey, co. Surrey. She died on February 20, 1746 and was buried February 28 in the Duke of Ormonde's vault in the King Henry VII Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey. Her first husband and their two younger sons were also buried there. She wrote her will on June 6, 1743, which was proved on March 3, 1746. The estates left to her by her first husband were left to their daughter Anne.
