Annette Lawless is a television news reporter[1] and actress. She currently is a morning anchor and reporter for KAKE-TV in Wichita, Kansas.[2] [3]

Early Life

Lawless was born and grew up in Wellington, Kansas. [4] She attended Wellington High School,[5] often competing in debate, speech, and acting tournaments.

She moved to Manhattan, Kansas, where she studied at Kansas State University and contributed to the university newspaper.[6] Lawless earned degrees in broadcasting, print journalism, and public relations. She also pursued her master’s degree at Fort Hays State University.

Broadcasting Career

Lawless worked at WJW-TV in Cleveland, ESPN, KWCH-TV in Wichita, and KTKA-TV in Topeka, Kansas. She was a reporter for Fox8 from 2010 to 2012. She is co-host of Hottie and the Jerk, a podcast on iTunes about primetime television. She and her co-host, Vaughn Fry, discuss the best and worst of entertainment.

In 2013, Lawless launched “On Set With Annette,” where she takes people behind-the-scenes of independent film. The show is featured on the REEL-TV Network.[7]

Lawless started anchoring at KAKE in September 2013, when the station initiated a major anchor shuffle.[2][8]

Awards and Nominations

Lawless has a number of awards in producing, reporting, and photography from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters, the National Press Photographers Association, the Ohio News Photographer’s Association, and the regional Heartland and the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the Emmy Awards. In 2011, Lawless was nominated for a producer Heartland Emmy for a promotion of “In Cold Blood.” The piece featured the 1959 murders of the Clutter family of Holcomb, Kansas. The murders were featured in Truman Capote's book In Cold Blood.

In 2012, she was nominated for a health/science Emmy. [9] In 2013, she was nominated for Emmys in human interest, video journalist, and sports videography. [7] That year, Lawless won an Emmy in Human Interest Reporting from the Lower Great Lakes Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. In 2014, Lawless was presented with an Ohio Excellence in Journalism Award by the Press Club of Cleveland.[10]

Acting Career

Lawless has acted in about 20 films, including The Avengers, Fun Size, Draft Day, Bloody Slumber Party, Captain America: The Winter Soldier,[5] Check Please, Krampus: The Christmas Devil, Rued January, The Inside 30, Audition: Impossible, Winnerz, Alex Cross, and Five-Minute Romance.

In 2012, she starred as Jenny in the short film The Wrong Party by TurnStyle Films. She was nominated for best supporting actress by the Cleveland 48 Hour Film Project.

Lawless played the lead role in Lady Dragon, an action film with Joe Estevez, Kristina Michelle, Vernard Adams, and Ricardo Colon. The film was expected to release in 2014,[11] but did not.[4]
