Annice Kenyetta Moriarty is a Ugandan-American voice actor and singer who has done voice work on various 4kids and Duart productions including Pokemon, Kappa Mikey and Dinosaur King.

Early Life[edit]

Annice Kenyetta Moriarty was born on August 22, 1976 in Lusaka, Zambia to Aya and Errol Moriarty. Her mother, Aya (1944-2007) was from North-western Madagascar, and gave Annice her name, which is a Malagasy name. Her father, Errol is of Kenyan origin from Mombasa, which is where the family moved in 1981 shortly after the birth of Annice’s younger sister Ritaya. After 2 years in Mombasa, the Moriarty family moved to Entebbe, Uganda, which is where the father Errol and Ritaya still live to this day. In 1988, Aya and Annice moved to New York City, when Moriarty was 12 years of age.

The first American Disney movie she saw was Oliver and

Company, which inspired her to get into voice acting. After that, little is known about Moriarty’s high school days and how she became a singer, only that she was part of the choir featured in the Lion King movies and became a member of the African Tribal Orchestra alongside her mother in 2000.

Career[edit]

Moriarty has worked on several anime and cartoons as a voice actor, including:

  • Kappa Mikey as Lily and aditional characters,
  • Pokemon as Candice, Lila and aditional voices
  • Ah! My Goddess as Skuld and aditional voices
  • Dinosaur King as chibi and Chomp

Confusion With Kether Donohue[edit]

Annice Moriarty is often times confused with fellow New York-based actor Kether Donohue, due to Moriarty and Donohue working on some of the same shows and having similar voices.

This lead to many people on the internet including several major anime related sources such as the Anime News Network crediting Annice Moriarty as a pseudonym of Kether Donohue, despite Donohue and Moriarty having many differences in their upbringing and life story.

This confusion lead to some websites listing Kether Donohue’s birthday as August 22, which is Annice Moriarty’s birth date.

It is unknown where exactly the myth that Kether Donohue used the pseudonym of Annice Moriarty came from, but it may possibly come either from 4kids mixing up actors in the credits of some of their anime dubs, or else the Pokémon character of Lila, from season 11 episode “Battling the Generation Gap, “where both Moriarty and Donohue voice the character (with Donohue voicing young Lila and Moriarty voicing adult Lila)

However, despite the parallels people have drawn between the two, this confusion is not supported by any official sources, as Donohue’s old website makes no reference to Moriarty what so ever.
