Annice Kenyetta Moriarty is a Ugandan-American voice actor and singer who has provided voice work for various 4Kids and Duart productions, including Pokémon, Kappa Mikey, and Dinosaur King.
Early Life
Annice Kenyetta Moriarty was born on August 22, 1976, in Lusaka, Zambia, to Aya and Errol Moriarty. Her mother, Aya (1944-2007), was from northwestern Madagascar, and gave Annice her name, which is a Malagasy name. Her father, Errol, is of Kenyan origin from Mombasa. The family moved to Mombasa in 1981 shortly after the birth of Annice's younger sister, Ritaya. After two years in Mombasa, the Moriarty family moved to Entebbe, Uganda, where Errol and Ritaya still reside. In 1988, Aya and Annice moved to New York City when Moriarty was 12 years old. The first American Disney movie she saw was *Oliver and Company*, which inspired her to pursue voice acting. After that, little is known about Moriarty's high school days and how she became a singer, only that she was part of the choir featured in the *The Lion King* movies and became a member of the African Tribal Orchestra alongside her mother in 2000.
Career
Moriarty has worked on several anime and cartoons as a voice actor, including:
- Kappa Mikey as Lily and additional characters,
- Pokémon as Candice, Lila, and additional voices
- Ah! My Goddess as Skuld and additional voices
- Dinosaur King as Chibi and Chomp
Confusion With Kether Donohue
Annice Moriarty is often confused with fellow New York-based actor Kether Donohue, due to their working on some of the same shows and having similar voices. This led to many internet users, including several major anime-related sources like the Anime News Network, mistakenly crediting Annice Moriarty as a pseudonym for Kether Donohue, despite their differing backgrounds and life stories. This confusion led some websites to list Kether Donohue's birthday as August 22, the same as Annice Moriarty's birthdate. It is unknown exactly how the myth of Kether Donohue using the pseudonym Annice Moriarty originated, but it might be due to 4Kids mixing up actors in the credits of some of their anime dubs or the Pokémon character of Lila, from season 11 episode "Battling the Generation Gap," where both Moriarty and Donohue voiced the character (with Donohue voicing young Lila and Moriarty voicing adult Lila). However, despite the parallels drawn, this confusion is not supported by any official sources, as Donohue's former website makes no reference to Moriarty.
