Mary Ann Birch
Annie Birch was an English Pioneer and early settler of Hoytsville, Utah. She and her husband Richard built the Annie Birch House around 1875.
Voyage to America
In 1849 Annie Birch's family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. At the time they lived in Walsall Wood, England. The people of Walsall Wood did not like Mormon people. Soon they were going on a ship that took L.D.S. people to America. The ship was called the Enoch Train. In May 1856 they arrived in Boston. Then they traveled to Iowa. On June 9 they left Iowa City with their handcarts and began their journey over the plains. There were two hundred seventy-three men who embarked upon this journey.[1] Out of these people thirty-three gave up and twelve died over the four-month journey. Also the handcarts they were using were not of good quality.
Later in 1856 Annie's father had died from complications of diarrhea. They buried him on the East Side of Big Sandy, Wyoming. Near Lander, Wyoming. Also William Birch, Annie's grandfather, was suffering from exposure and had frozen feet. Her mother then married a man named Richard Birch. The same Richard Birch that Annie later married and was Annie's uncle. They finally arrived in Salt Lake City on September 26, 1856.
Settling in Hoytsville
The Birch family settled in an area of Hoytsville, Utah that had the Weber River flowing through their ranch. She had six children in Hoytsville with Richard. In 1883 her mother and Richard moved to Idaho, only to return to Utah in 1905.
