Ante Pavlović (chiropractor)
Ante Pavlović (30 August 1957 – 19 July 2020) was a Croatian [1] chiropractor who gained notoriety during the 1990s for his treatment methods, scandalous behaviour[2] and violence for which he was in prison several times.[1] He was also noted for his belief that he was the reincarnation of Jesus.[3]
Pavlović was born in Šurkovac in present-day Bosnia and Herzegovina. He attended a Franciscan seminary in Yugoslavia, but eventually emigrated to the United States. He returned to Croatia in 1990, claiming that he became a chiropractor in the United States and treated patients there and in Bosnia and Herzegovina, by using a method which he called "the centring".[4]
He had among 12 000 Youtube followers[2] in Croatia due to his YouTube channel where he uploaded his unusual videos;[5] such as video where he beats his followers, argues with his neighbours, gets arrested by the police or where he makes striptease and does pushups in Croatian late night talk show Nightmare Stage.[6] In the same show, he also punched a host Željko Malnar in the stomach. He announced that he would run in the Croatian 2019–20 presidential election,[7] but got arrested before for inflicting severe physical injuries on a man and keeping him as a slave.[8] Before that he also served a prison sentence for molesting a child who came to his treatment and publishing it on Youtube.[9] Some other incidents for which he was arrested involve those when he had beaten a local priest for not obeying his orders, or when he walked naked on the street and attacked a passing car driver.[10] Pavlović died after a short period of illness on 19 July 2020.[11]
