Anthony Labruna is an American government employee, currently serving as the Deputy White House liaison for the United States Department of Commerce. A college senior at Iowa State University, many officials within the Department of Commerce have raised concerns about Labruna's age and lack of experience.[1][2]

Early life and education[edit]

Labruna is a native of Fullerton, California, and earned credits toward a Bachelor's of Arts degree in political science from Iowa State University, but ultimately dropped out of the university before graduating on track for Spring 2020. Prior to joining the Trump Administration, Labruna had not yet graduated from Iowa State.

Career[edit]

A member of the Iowa State College Republicans, Labruna worked on the Donald Trump 2020 presidential campaign before leaving after the 2020 Iowa Republican caucuses.[3] Labruna also worked as an aide to Jarad Klein, a member of the Iowa House of Representatives.

Labruna was recommended for a position in the Trump Administration through John McEntee, a family friend of Labruna and former "body man" to Donald Trump, serving as director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office.[4][5][6]

Labruna's work recruiting employees at the Department of Commerce was roundly criticized by career staff and members of the media who viewed his choices as rushed and under-qualified, reflecting poor judgement and skill from Labruna.
