Anthony Romani (born July 12, 2005) is a Canadian ice hockey forward for the Michigan State University Spartans of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).[1] He was drafted 162nd overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2024 NHL entry draft.[2]
Playing career
Described as a "late bloomer", Romani went undrafted in his first early of eligibility, but scored over 100 points in his second year of eligibility.[3] Romani scored 58 goals in the 2023–24 OHL season; only three other under-19 players had done this: Patrick Kane, Steven Stamkos, and John Tavares.[4]
The Vancouver Canucks drafted Romani in the sixth round, 162nd overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft after he lead the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in goals and became just the second player in North Bay Battalion history to surpass 110 points in a single season.[5]
In October 2024, Romani suffered a broken clavicle during a game against the Erie Otters.[6] Prior to the 2025 OHL Trade Deadline, Romani was traded to the Barrie Colts.[7] In February 2025, Romani recorded his 100th career goal in his 212th OHL game.[8] After the season ended, Romani gave up an additional year of junior hockey eligibility to join the Michigan State University Spartans.[9] He would assist Michigan State in repeating as Great Lakes Invitational champions.[10]
