Anthony Patrick Howard Walsh is an Irish Gynecologist, Surgeon, Barrister and a pioneer in the field of In vitro fertilization in Ireland. [1][2][3] Walsh went on to open the Clane Hospital IVF Unit in Co. Kildare. [4] This was the first exclusively dedicated IVF center in Ireland. He eventually established, with Dr David Walsh (no relation), Ireland’s flagship clinic in Reproductive Medicine at Sims IVF in Dublin which lead to some of the most advanced testing technology and successful infertility and IVF treatments in Ireland. [5] Walsh also introduced the Gamete intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT) procedure and used donor sperm and egg in Assisted Reproduction for the first time in Ireland.[6]

Biography

Walsh, after internship, began his training in General Surgery working inter alia with Hy Browne a well known Dublin Surgeon. [7][1]

A further successful surgical rotation interfaced him with Prof. Eamon deValera a noted gynecological surgeon that subsequently steered him towards a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology within which he developed a special interest in Fertility treatments and Invitro Fertilisation.

Walsh went on to open the Clane Hospital IVF Unit in Co. Kildare. This was the first exclusively dedicated IVF center in Ireland. [8]
