The anti-establishment wave is a trend in global politics from 2015–2016 that led to the rise of anti-establishment populist political leaders, especially in established democracies. This event has led to the rise of controversial politicians such as Norbert Hofer in Austria,[1] Jimmy Morales in Guatemala,[2] Rodrigo Duterte in the Philippines,[3] and Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump in the United States.[4]
