Antoine Donzeaud (born 1985 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France) is a French visual artist based in Paris.

Biography

Antoine Donzeaud was born in 1985 in Vitry-sur-Seine, France, and grew up in the suburbs of Paris.[1]

He graduated from the Villa Arson (National School of Art in Nice), where he obtained a DNSEP degree in 2010. In 2007, he took part in an exchange program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2016, he was an artist-in-residence at Rupert, a center for art, residencies and education in Vilnius,[2][3][4] as well as at the La Brea Studio Residency in Los Angeles.[5]

In 2013, he co-founded the independent project space Exo Exo in his studio in Paris, together with curator Elisa Rigoulet. Operating on a non-commercial basis, the space invited artists to present short-term exhibitions lasting one week.[6][7][8][9]

Work

Antoine Donzeaud works across painting, sculpture, installation, and video.[10][11] His practice frequently engages with everyday objects and elements drawn from urban culture, examining the relationship between private and public spaces.[10][12]

Architecture is a recurring element in his practice, addressing public and impersonal environments alongside domestic and intimate spaces.[13]

His works have also been discussed in relation to contemporary image circulation and communication structures, addressing the permeability between art and everyday life.[10][14]

Critical reception

Critical responses to Antoine Donzeaud’s work have emphasized the emotional and conceptual dimensions of his practice, particularly his use of found imagery, everyday materials, and assemblage to evoke personal and collective affect. Commentary has also noted his deconstruction of traditional pictorial conventions and the way his work blurs the boundary between everyday experience and artistic production.[15][16][17]
