Anush Hovhannisyan is an Armenian opera singer. She is the winner of the "Stella Maris" competition and a laureate of the Bellini Bel Canto Competition in Marseille.[1]
Biography
After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2013, Anush Hovhannisyan became known as one of the most outstanding young sopranos. Her debut at the Scottish Opera as Violetta in "La Traviata" was highly praised, with The Sunday Times calling it a "star is born" moment.[2]
Some of her most notable soprano roles have received high acclaim. She has performed Violetta in "La Traviata" at the Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, Royal Opera, Israeli Opera, and the Royal Danish Opera. Her recent debuts as Tatiana in "Eugene Onegin" and Lisa in "Zigzag" were unanimously praised.[3]
Earlier, she studied at the Spendiaryan Music School in Yerevan, followed by the vocal department of the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan. She began singing in the Yerevan Opera Studio and later at the Yerevan State Opera and Ballet Theater. She has performed with the Tagharan Ensemble, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Children's Orchestra.[4]
She has appeared on various stages alongside renowned musicians.
In June 2017, at the final of the "BBC Cardiff Singer of the World" competition in Wales, Anush Hovhannisyan performed a world premiere. For the first time, she performed the role of Mira, a Greek slave, in the new opera "Sardanapalo" by the great Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt, written 170 years ago.[1]
