While not all command figures might share similar personality traits. To Paul in the middle of all this terror and thing nobody should ever have to do or witness sees weakness and pities in being in such a kill-be-killed world, his mind has become concave and all he can do is think is notice the weakness in the world and hate it because the only way Paul will survive is with the stomach to do what he does and the strength to keep his sanity. Although a different story, a similar song is sung by the boys in *Refresh*. In *Refresh*, a recruiter named David Lightener comes to a house where the family has already lost a member of the family to war, and there are two boys that are coming of age to war. The recruiter comes to the house to try to take more from the family, and out of hatred the two boys jump the recruiter with no warning, they ferociously attack him until he is unconscious. That makes us the reader think about how severely these boys hated this guy and what he represented. Again, this was probably not an isolated situation. These two vastly temporal different scenarios, as well as situational, really give us the tools as a reader to contemplate our and their positions on war.
