Apna.co is an Indian jobs and professional networking platform that is dedicated to blue- and grey-collar workers.[1] Apna operates through a mobile application and has different communities of skilled professionals, such as painters, carpenters, field sales agents, telecallers, delivery personnel and more.[2] The app also supports in acquiring skills and finding gig opportunities.[3] After an individual comes to the platform, they are asked to enter their personal details which is converted to a virtual business card.[4] The users are also allowed to connect with peers to clarify doubts..[5] The name Apna (meaning mine/ours) is derived from the bollywood film Gully Boy's song Apna Time Ayega (Mine/our time will come).[6] As reported in 2020, the company was a pre-revenue company and the monetization efforts were not started. Apna was available in 11 languages including English, Hindi and other local languages.[7][6]
History[edit]
The company was founded in 2019 by Nirmit Parikh and is based in Bangalore.[3] The founder worked at a factory in Ahmedabad as an electrician to speak with fellow workers and gather insight before finding the company.[7]
Competition[edit]
It is being speculated if Apna will become a competitor to other established job portals like Naukri.com. Naukri currently is not deep into blue and grey collar workers and Apna is currently not catering to white-collar jobs. Reema Tendulkar at CNBC mentioned that while there is no competition for now, the possibility of the two companies stepping into each other's domain can not be eliminated.[5]
