Apollo Temple is a prominence in eastern Grand Canyon located northeast of the south flowing Colorado River.
The flat surface bottom of Apollo Temple is a distinct geologic formation in Grand Canyon and elsewhere. It is called the Great Unconformity, a billion+ year event of erosion. The cliff below Apollo, sitting on the Great Unconformity, is a mostly horizontal, highly resistant Tapeats Sandstone that occurs in west, central, and east Grand Canyon.
