Apoorva Gokhale

Apoorva Gokhale (born 5 December 1973) is an Indian Hindustani classical vocalist known for her expertise in the Gwalior gharana tradition. She has garnered acclaim for her khayal renditions and has performed extensively across India and internationally.

Early Life and Background

Born into a family of distinguished musicians, Apoorva Gokhale is the granddaughter of the late Gayanacharya Pandit Gajananrao Joshi and the great-granddaughter of Pandit Antubua Joshi, a court musician in the erstwhile state of Aundh, Maharashtra. Her initial training began at the age of five under her grandfather's guidance. Following his demise, she continued her rigorous training under her uncle, Pandit Madhukar Joshi, for over 25 years. She also received guidance from her father, Shri Manohar Joshi; her aunt, Dr. Sucheta Bidkar; and renowned vocalist Padmashri Pandit Ulhas Kashalkar. Further mentorship came from Pandit Shankar Abhyankar, Smt. Manik Bhide, Smt. Ashwini Bhide-Deshpande, Pandit Yeshwant Mahale, and Pandit Arun Kashalkar.[1][2][3][4]

Education

Apoorva holds a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from the University of Mumbai and a Master's degree in Indian Classical Music from SNDT Women's University, Mumbai, where she graduated with first-class honors.[1]

Apoorva is widely respected not only as a distinguished performer but also as an illustrious Guru, dedicated to preserving and propagating the rich traditions of Hindustani classical music. With deep-rooted knowledge stemming from the Gwalior, Jaipur, and Agra gharanas, she brings to her students a rare confluence of lineage, authenticity, and innovation. An empanelled Guru with Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal (ABGMV), SNDT Women's University, and Bharati Vidyapeeth University, she has mentored numerous disciples who are now active performers and teachers in their own right.[1][4][17]
