Apphia Clara Manjoro (née Marimazhira) was the wife of Bishop Bartholomew Manjoro until her death on the 12th of April 2016. She is the founder of Virtuous Women Community International and is the co-founder of Faith World Ministries and Bible College. Apphia Manjoro was popularly known as Mother General because of her motherly role in the lives of many people.

Early life[edit]

Apphia Clara Manjoro was born in Gutu, a district (rural) in Masvingo (south west) in Zimbabwe. She was trained to work hard and do many different kinds of tasks, even those which are generally assigned to men. She could do tasks like cutting trees, milk cows, and even operate farming machinery.

She grew up as a Catholic and she desired to become a nun and serve the Lord. She had a heart to help people and decided to enroll into a convent to become a nun after her secondary school. She was however discouraged from the idea of becoming a nun for the sake of her parents, since her brother was also into ministry. She took up teaching as a career instead.

Calling[edit]

While Apphia was working as a teacher, in 1969, she became seriously ill and was partly paralyzed. Although their family was Catholic, they tried everything for her to get cured, even traditional means, but none of those worked. Her older sister had been in Harare and knew of a pastor whom God was using to perform miracles, even to heal the sick. Apphia's sister took her to the pastor in Harare where she was prayed for and got instant healing. The pastor who prayed for Apphia had an assistant who served him, whose name is Bartholomew Manjoro. Bartholomew was present and also assisting in prayer when Apphia got her healing.

Apphia became a born again Christian after her miraculous healing and she was filled with the Holy Ghost. Apphia often said sickness is not from God, but "the sickness was a hook" which God used to bring her close to her purpose and calling.

Early ministry[edit]

Apphia started serving God in the Pentecostal church where she got healed. She ministered through singing and worship and she also preached in public places and in buses. Apphia traveled across borders in Africa preaching the gospel and she also held crusades locally and served God under the ministry where she was healed.

Marriage[edit]

Apphia still had traces of a celibate attitude even though she was no longer a part of the Catholic church. She had no interest in boys or relationships because she wanted to pursue God, according to a scripture she quoted in Matthew 6:33.

In 1974, an evangelist(by then) Bartholomew Manjoro, (that pastor's assistant) approached the church elders and expressed his interest in Apphia. This happened at a time when Apphia was out of the country, preaching the gospel, but because of the intensity of Bartholomew's request the church elders were forced to summon Apphia to urgently come back home. Apphia says that she thought someone had died or something terrible had happened, but upon arrival, she was a bit relieved when she discovered that it was not terrible news. Apphia says she was not exactly for the idea of a relationship or marriage but through the help and counseling of her mentor and leaders, she gave room for the evangelist to say his heart out and as time went on, the two fell in love and got married in the same year.

Bartholomew Manjoro says that the day Apphia came when she was sick, the Lord told him that she was his wife but he doubted considering the condition she was in. Bishop Dr. Bartholomew Manjoro forgot about the message from God but later as he was praying for a marriage partner who could support him in his ministry, his heart leaned towards Apphia who was outstandingly ministering to the Lord.

Bishop Dr. Manjoro and his wife have traveled places, ministering the word of God across nations and continents.
