Apple Ford is a Ford and Lincoln car dealership in Columbia, Maryland. Apple Ford was the first auto dealership in Columbia and is known to be one of the largest dealerships in Maryland.[1][2][3]
History
Apple Ford first began as Behrend Brothers, Inc. in 1931 by brothers Mickey and Alvin Behrend. Behrend Brothers was located in Baltimore, Maryland where it became relatively successful until having financial difficulties in the 1980s. George L. Doetsch took over the fledgling dealership in 1986. The Ford dealership under Doetsch was restructured as Apple Ford in the same year. Doetsch turned the Ford dealership around and used the profits to fully acquire the dealership from the Ford Motor Company.[4] In 1993 Apple Ford relocated to Columbia, Maryland, becoming the first auto dealership in the town. Lester D. Parker Sr., Apple Ford's top performing salesman, was praised by The Baltimore Sun for selling his 5,000th car after working 48 years at the dealership.[5] In 2003 Apple Ford established Tri-State Collision Center, the former auto body shop of the dealership. Tri-State Collision Center was established at a 57,000 square foot facility near the main location of the dealership.[6]
Philanthropy
Apple Ford is an annual donor to the Howard County General Hospital.[7] Donations to the hospital are annually over $200,000.[8] The philanthropic donations to Howard County General Hospital have allowed the hospital to expand and acquire valuable resources for its patients.[9] George Doetsch Jr. serves on the board at Howard County General Hospital.[10] Apple Ford is also a top sponsor for multiple local organizations in the Columbia and Baltimore area.[11]
