Apterygiformes is an order of birds.[1][2]. All extant species live in New Zealand and near oceanic islands. Members of this order are known as kiwis and have played such an important part in New Zealand culture that a popular nickname for New Zealanders and a type of fruit have been named after them. There are five extant species of kiwis. Of these species, the little spotted kiwi is classed as Near Threatened by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, and the southern brown kiwi, okarito brown kiwi, north island brown kiwi, and great spotted kiwi have been classed as Vulnerable.[3]
