ArasaKumar, popularly known as BT Kumar, hailed from Maruthanthalai, a remote village in Pudukottai district of South Tamilnadu (born 22 June 1968), is a prominent Bharatiya Janata Party leader in India. He also heads a chain of educational institutions. He currently is the party’s vice president for Tamil Nadu.

Personal life

Mr. Arasakumar is married to Ms. Kokila and is blessed with a daughter, A. Shanmugapriya, who is a Doctor MD. His son-in-law, P.M. Anbumaran, is also a Doctor MD, and a son, Mr. A. Karthick, who works as a Director in the Tamil film industry. He is very spiritual and God-fearing and performs various temple-related activities like annathanam every year around his hometown. He was interested in politics right from his childhood and he started very young, at the age of 11, by attending political meetings. He grew to this stature without any political background and is a self-made person.

He did his schooling at Govt Hr Secondary School, Manapparai, Trichy. Further, he went on to complete his MA in History from Annamalai University.

Political career

Arasakumar B T started off his political career in 2001 by founding Dravida Vizhipunarchi Kazhagam, even before which he exhibited his leadership qualities by presiding over as a panchayat president in his hometown, Maruthanthalai. He first contested in the 2006 general elections at Marungapuri, Tirchy. Further, he went on to contest in the 2014 Parliament elections as a candidate in Ramanathapuram district under Desiya Forward Bloc.[1] In 2016, he contested in assembly elections as a BJP candidate in Mudukulathur assembly, Ramanathapuram district.[2] He currently is the party’s vice president for Bharatiya Janata Party Tamil Nadu.[3]

Social Work

ArasaKumar has headed various Kumbhabhishekham in Trichy district. He also spearheaded the development at his village (Panayampatti) by providing drinking water, roads and proper housing. He expanded schools and made higher education possible for the people of his village. He also represented the committee from Tamil Nadu to meet Vajpayee regarding the Cauvery issue.
