Are They Hooping
ATH Pickup Basketball App (Are They Hooping)
Are They Hooping is an app for pickup basketball. Created by Ron Jones Jr.
It allows users to see who is playing basketball in real time on a live map. When entering the app, there is a map tab which shows nearby gyms, and this map can be zoomed out to show courts all over the world. Every gym has a list of options including leaving reviews, viewing the gym, and checking in. When a gym is viewed, you can see who is playing basketball there, or 'hooping', as well as viewing the reviews and upcoming games. Finally, you can get GPS navigation directly to the court.
ATH is a social networking app. Like most social apps, it includes messaging and friends. There is an explore page that loads users within a 100-mile radius; however, if you search, you can find any user in the app. Whether you find a user by search or by seeing them at a gym, you can add them as a friend. Once they are added as a friend, you can find them on your friends page. To see if a user added you back, simply go to their profile and look for the "follows you" label in the top right. After a friend is added, you can boost them. This boost gives them "buckets" and increases their overall rank.
"Buckets" are in-app points that can be used to increase your stats, customize your skin, gift other users, or cash out for real money. To increase your stats or customize your skin, you can click either one located at the bottom of your profile. After clicking the appropriate button, a popup will take you to the ATH store where you can use buckets to achieve your goal. To gift another user, you can go to their profile and click the gift option, or join their live stream and give them a gift using the button on the bottom left. The latter is the reason that going live is the easiest way to get buckets. Finally, to cash out buckets for real money, you can go to the in-app purchase page. To access this page, you can click your "level" label on your profile, which will display your ranking of either "rookie", "starter", "all-star", "MVP", or "HOF". You can also click the shopping cart in your settings or choose "buy buckets" in any popup that has that option. Users can earn $100 for every cashout, which requires 50,000 buckets. There is no limit to how many times you can cash out.
There are several ways to earn buckets without paying. The best way to get buckets is to level up or to go live. You can go live on the live tab in the app. To level up, you must earn points, which is fairly simple. Most actions in the app award points; some examples include, but are not limited to, checking in gyms, finding new friends, playing trivia (which is located on the trivia tab), or even just logging in to the app daily.
The app also contains customizable skins and a music soundtrack. Skins are the animated character displayed on your profile. There are several options, including changing the color of the base skin or getting a celebrity skin. The celebrity options are updated periodically based on celebrities that collaborate with the app. Currently, the app contains skins for Translee, OzzyDaVyrus, and OG, who is a basketball influencer on Tik-Tok. The music soundtrack consists of Rap and R&B, with 4 playlists. The playlists are 'hooping playlist' (which is fit for playing music during pickup basketball games), rap, r&b, and all. The app naturally starts on the all playlist with shuffle turned on, but this can be changed using the options at the top of your profile. To choose an individual song, simply tap the music section at the top of the profile to be taken to the music page where you can see all songs and their details. The playlist is constantly growing, but currently contains over 50 songs by over 20 artists. Most are underground artists or artists looking to gain exposure; however, there are some large names such as Rick Ross, Tank, and YFN Lucci.
