Arena of Blood
Arena of Blood is a board game published by Games Workshop in 1999 that features gladiatorial battles set in the universe of Warhammer 40,000.
Description
Arena of Blood is a multi-player game where each player controls a male gladiator called a Dark Elf Wych. Each Wych has various strengths and weaknesses. The game takes place in a Dark Eldar gladiator arena. [1] Games can be linked into Campaigns over the course of which players can acquire a team of Wyches.
Gameplay
The game starts with each player taking turns placing Murder Stakes around the playmat. Players then randomly select a Wych and place it at the edge of the board. Each Wych has a certain number of action points that can be spent to move the Wych across the playmat, or engage in combat with other players' Wyches. Dice are used to resolve attacks.
Publication history
Games Workshop published Arena of Blood as a free pull-out game in Issue 229 of their house magazine White Dwarf. [1]
Reception and variants
In Issue 10 of the Australian games magazine Australian Realms, Martin Evans presented a variant of the game where the players can create female gladiators, and provided five sample gladiators. [2]
