Arenarie di Monte Gabba

The Sandstones of Monte Gabba (in italian Arenarie di Monte Gabba) are ageological formation near Gaggio Montano, in the Metropolitan city of Bologna, and a stratigraphic synthem of Emilia-Romagna.

Features[edit]

They're composed by lytic sandstone from medium to coarse to conglomerates in grey levels from medium to very thick. The clastic rock are predominantly composed by metamorphic rock, dark volcanic rock, granite and carbonatite. They have a maximum power of 150m [1].

Making[edit]

The stratigraphic position of the Sandstones of Monte Gabba is known: the crop of the zone (North the town of Gabba), is the tectonic contact with both Argille a Palombini and the overlying Formation of Monte Venere.

They have been attributed from Heymann in 1968 at the Turonian (between 93,6±0,8 and 88,6 millions of years ago)[2].
