Early Life

Areous A. Ahmad was born on August 11, 1998, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria. Raised in a diverse community that emphasized education, hard work, and collective progress, Ahmad's interest in technology emerged around age 8. Inspired by his older brother, a computer science student, he learned to break down complex problems through coding and experimentation. This early exposure instilled a philosophy of accessible technology and knowledge sharing, influencing his career in design and community building.
Ahmad studied Computer Science at Informatics Academy in Jigawa State, Nigeria.
Career
Ahmad's professional journey began in 2013 as a graphics designer at Believe Computers in Jos, where he developed skills in visual communication and client collaboration.
In 2017, he interned remotely at Collaborizm in New York, conducting user research and contributing to product improvements. From 2018 to 2019, he served as a UI/UX Designer at Sitemach in Kwara, Nigeria, focusing on translating requirements into functional designs.
His roles expanded globally: UI/UX Designer at VN Sync in London (2019–2020) and Goldville in Abuja (2020–2022), where he optimized fintech workflows, reducing onboarding time by 15%. At Usecheckin Inc. in New York (2022–2023), he led design processes boosting user satisfaction by 20% and created the company's first design system, including an AI travel itinerary planner.
From 2023 to 2025, Ahmad worked at Niyo Group in Birmingham, UK, designing gamified edutech features and another comprehensive design system.
Since 2025, he has been a Product Designer at Tempo, a Y Combinator S23-backed startup in Toronto, specializing in AI-powered development tools.
Ahmad has designed products across fintech (Phospay, Goldville), crypto (Sugar Box), foodtech (Foodbank Africa), and edutech, with expertise in emerging markets, mobile-first design, and intermittent connectivity challenges. He has led remote teams across three continents and established design systems at multiple startups.
Personal Life
In February 2022, Ahmad founded Open Designers, a social enterprise providing free open-source design templates, UI kits, and education to African designers, addressing resource barriers. It has grown to over 2,000 members continent-wide.
He leads Google Developer Group (GDG) Ilorin since January 2023 and co-organizes Kwarabuild initiatives since 2018, including coding bootcamps and hackathons. Ahmad organized DevFest Ilorin (2023–2025), attracting 2,000+ attendees with keynote speaker Shola Akinlade of Paystack.
