Ari Matti Mustonen (born 20 January 1992), who performs as Ari Matti, is an Estonian stand-up comedian based in Austin, Texas. He performs primarily in English and is known internationally as a recurring performer on the live comedy podcast Kill Tony.[1]
Early life
Mustonen was born in Tallinn, Estonia.[2]
Career
Estonia and early touring
Mustonen began performing stand-up in the early 2010s and became associated with the Comedy Estonia collective, which promotes English-language and Estonian-language stand-up in the country.[3] He has toured hour-long solo shows including Flamingo and Imported Goods, and has performed in the United Kingdom, continental Europe, Canada, Asia and Australia.[3][4]
He spent 2018 based in Vancouver, Canada, working as a feature act and later a headliner at Yuk Yuk's and The Comedy Mix.[4]
Seattle International Comedy Competition
In November 2022, Mustonen won the Seattle International Comedy Competition, taking the title on the final night ahead of runner-up Chase DuRousseau.[5] Several venue listings describe him as the first European performer to win the competition.[6]
United States and Kill Tony
Mustonen relocated to Austin, Texas, where he became a regular performer at the Comedy Mothership, the club owned by Joe Rogan.[4] He made his debut on Kill Tony, hosted by Tony Hinchcliffe, in December 2023, and was announced as a member of the show's regular cast in June 2024.[7]
He appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience in 2024.[1] In January 2026, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reported that the Netflix special Kill Tony: Once Upon a Time in Texas, in which Mustonen appears, reached the platform's top ten in numerous countries, placing second in Estonia and third in the United States.[1]
Mustonen was scheduled to perform at the 2026 Netflix Is a Joke Festival in Los Angeles.[8]
Other work
Mustonen has also worked as a mixed martial arts commentator.[9]
