Arie Rotem

Emeritus Professor Arie Rotem BA MA PhD FAIM
Professor Arie Rotem is an Australian-Israeli educator and leader in the field of Human Resources, specialising in the healthcare sector. He is Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney, Australia where he lectures and acts as a consultant for governments and international agencies, working in over 20 countries to improve health systems development, human resource for health and health professional education.

Career
His career began in 1976 as Senior Lecturer and Consultant at the School of Medical Education, University of New South Wales (UNSW). In 1986 he became Chairman of the Consortium for Health Development, UNSW, and in 1988 accepted a concurrent role as Director, World Health Organization, Regional Training Centre for Health Development which he held for over 10 years. In 1989 he was appointed as Associate Professor and Head at the School of Medical Education, UNSW.
In 1993 he became Director of the Centre for Public Health, UNSW, and in 1994 Professor and Head at the School of Medical Education, Faculty of Medicine, UNSW.
In 2000 he was appointed Director of the Centre for International and Multicultural Health, UNSW and finally became Professor at the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, UNSW in 2002.
In 2005 he became Emeritus Professor, University of New South Wales and still holds this role.
He has served on national and international committees related to health development including being Chair of the Australian Network of Academic Public Health Institutions (ANAPHI). He continues to contribute to workforce development by working as a consultant for international agencies and governments while teaching regularly in other universities including Ben Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) and the National Institute of Public Health (Japan).
Prof. Rotem has also led a number of major reviews commissioned by the Australian Government on the education and training of the public health workforce in Australia.
