Arif Janmohamed has a solid track record of making successful investments and actively promoting the advancement of innovation in enterprise. This record continues with his notable investment in, and professional activities at, Lightspeed Venture Partners. He’s been an active investor at Lightspeed Venture Partners for the past 14 years. Throughout his time there, Arif has promoted the growth of many startups.

His professional passion for entrepreneurship is deeply rooted. Arif’s grandfather was a successful entrepreneur with startups across the globe. His father started his career as an engineer. After earning his MBA, his father focused on driving innovation through his entrepreneurial efforts. Arif grew up watching innovation in action, and he’s now an active participant in driving tech innovation.

Arif is Canadian, and currently a resident of the Bay Area. He’s fluent in both French and English.

Education[edit]

Arif is highly educated and has shown a passion for self-improvement. He attended the University of Lausanne from 1997 through 1998. His education continued at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne from 1998 through 1999 where he worked toward a VLSI in computer engineering. After transferring to Canada’s University of Waterloo, Arif graduated with a Bachelor of Science in computer engineering in 2000. Later, he attended The Wharton School. He earned a Master of Business Administration in finance in 2006.

Career[edit]

Arif has been actively working as a partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners in Menlo Park for the past 14 years. His primary efforts have been focused on early-stage investment activities in enterprise technology startups. These startups have largely been centered around the principal areas of artificial intelligence, data, and cloud computing. Arif’s current investments at Lightspeed Venture Partners include work with the founding teams of Cycognito, TripActions, Alif Semiconductor, Resilience, ThoughtSpot, Theta Lake, PredictHQ, Split Software, RedPanda, Moveworks, Appzen, and others. Also at Lightspeed Venture Partners, Arif worked together with  many startups, including Memoir Systems, IO Turbine, RAPsphere, Nutanix, Qubole, Mist Systems, AVI Networks, and StreamOnces.

In addition to his notable and extended role at Lightspeed Venture Partners, Arif has been active at C100 for more than 13 years as an early board member and a founding charter member at this Canadian nonprofit organization focusingon aiding tech entrepreneurship in Canada.

Before his current work at Lightspeed Venture Partners and C100, Arif progressively advanced his career through a series of impactful roles. Earlier in his career, Arif worked as a corporate business development manager at Cisco Systems from 2006 through 2008. In this role, he was active with SaaS collaboration and strategy, investments, and mergers and acquisitions. He specifically played an active role in Cisco’s involvement with Postpath, WebEx, Jabber, and other entities.

Between 2005 and 2006, Arif played a founding role at WVP Ventures. He established and ran this venture capital group while enrolled at the Wharton School. Through this endeavor, he actively trained and mentored Wharton students in various aspects of entrepreneurship and investment.

Arif worked in several other influential positions including in 2005 when he served as an associate at Novitas Capital. Between 2003 and 2004, he was chief technology officer at Sun Microsystems. From 2000 to 2003, he worked at Andes Networks as a product manager and a senior hardware engineer. Arif was also a hardware engineer at WebTV from 1999 through 2000.

Investments[edit]

Arif is an avid investor in new ventures. One of his most notable investments has been in TripActions as the earliest institutional investor. TripActions is a complete corporate travel solutioncurrently serving more than 8,800 customers. These services include expense management, smart corporate cards, and travel management. Arif is active in this company's activities through Lightspeed Venture Partners.
