Arik Air Flight 740 was a regularly scheduled domestic passenger flight from Murtala Muhammed International Airport to Port Harcourt International Airport. On February 11, 2026, the Boeing 737-700 operating this route suffered a uncontained engine failure. The aircraft then made an emergency landing at Benin Airport in Nigeria. All 80 occupants on board survived without any injury.[1]

Accident

The engine suffered a uncontained engine failure. The inlet came off and a shutdown occurred. Both cowlings were torn and the leading edge of the vertical stabilizer was damaged.[1][2] The pilots then diverted the aircraft to Benin Airport in Benin City, Nigeria. The 737 made a successful emergency landing and came to a stop on the runway shortly after touching down.
