Arindam Bagchi[edit]

Arindam Bagchi is an Indian civil servant belonging to the Indian Foreign Service since 1995. Arindam Bagchi is the Spokesperson for Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), India[1]. He succeeded Anurag Srivastava in March 2021. Prior this position, he was Joint Secretary (North) in Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi from June 2020.

Early Life[edit]

Arindam Bagchi is from West Bengal and has studied in St. Stephen's College and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He joined the Indian Foreign Service as a career diplomat in 1995[2].

Diplomatic Career[edit]

Arindam Bagchi started his diplomatic career in 1995. He began as a Third Secretary/Second Secretary in Embassy of India, Madrid, Spain from 1997 to 2000. He then went on to become First Secretary in Embassy of India, Lima, Peru from 2000 to 2004. He returned to headquarters in Delhi as Deputy Secretary. In 2007, he was appointed as Counsellor to Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in New York. He returned to headquarters in 2010 to serve as Director in the Prime Minister's Office until 2014. In June 2014, he was posted to the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka as Deputy High Commissioner. Here he played a critical role in developing relations between India and Sri Lanka. In October 2018, he was appointed as Ambassador of India to Zagreb, Croatia until June 2020 [3]. From June 2020 to March 2021, he served as Joint Secretary (North) in Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
