The Arizona Sidewinders are a semi professional women's ultimate team founded in 2020 that competes in the Western Ultimate League.[1][2][3] Their competition includes five other teams, Los Angeles Astra, San Diego Super Bloom, San Francisco Falcons, Seattle Cascades, and Utah Wild. The team was set to compete in their first season in March 2020 and continue through May, but was postponed and then canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][5]
The team was founded by Helen Eifert and created by an organizing committee of prominent players in the state including Lindsey Doyle, Eifert, Dakota Lippincott, Shelby Petty, Laura Prelsnik, Lisa Shipek, and Caitlin Winterbottom. The Arizona Sidewinders is an LLC established in 2020 and is managed by Eifert, Lippincott, and Shipek with hired staff member, Chris Hohmann. Its financial investors include Doyle, Lippincott, Venu Manne, Brian Miller, Petty, Kay Powell, Shipek, William Walker, and Jamal Yusof. The players on the inaugural 2020 Sidewinders roster come from across the state of Arizona, including Phoenix, Tucson, and Flagstaff,[6] as well as out of state from New Mexico, Colorado, and Texas.[7] The current captains are Eifert and Prelsnik.
