Arman Charostaei (Persian: آرمان چاروستایی, born 17 September 1986 in Abadan) is an Iranian ex-political prisoner, blogger and political activist. Since 2012 he lives in Germany and studied in Iran, got there a university degree as software developers. From 2006 he was an active blogger who campaigned for human rights and democracy in the country. Since January 2011, he founded the organization "Iranian youth community for liberation".[1][2]
Before the Iranian presidency elections in 2009 (Iranian Green Movement) he had started a spectacular political action in the center of his city and hung the forbidden old Iranian national flag on a bridge on the pedestrian zone. The Iranian national flag which he hung, had the "The Islamic Republic has to go" inscription.[3]
In February 2010 he was arrested and imprisoned for 45 days in solitary confinement, left free by the pledge amount of 66,000 US dollars in that time. He also had to promise that do not involve political actions. Nevertheless, he only a year later founded the "Iranian youth community for liberation" organization. On February 2011 he was 3 months in prison.
A few months later he fled to Turkey. In Turkey, he remained seven months and there he became politically active and participated in demonstrations against the Iranian government.
On May 14, 2015 in Cologne the United Nations special rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed met Arman Charostaei and discussions were held on human rights in Iran and the arrest of Iranian prisoners.[4]
