Armenia Maria de Jesus (15 may 1908 — 10 september 2024)[1] — An verified Brazilian supercentenarian who lived to 116 years old was the oldest person on earth from August 19 to September 10, 2024, and was only 8 days older than the oldest person on earth at the time, Tomiki Itooka.

Biography
Born 15 may 1908, in Salinas, Brazil a city located in the Jequitinhonha Valley, in the interior of Minas Gerais. In 1951, tired of the difficult life in the interior of Minas Gerais, Armenia and her nine children accompanied her husband, who, in search of a better life for his family, left the Jequitinhonha Valley for Paraná. It was a seven-day journey by truck and train until they arrived in the city of Campo Mourão, Paraná.
After seven years in Campo Mourão, the family moved to the region now occupied by the municipality of Dois Visinhos, which was then a fledgling entity. Soon after, Armenia lost her husband. Widowed and left with nine children to raise, Dona Armenia continued her journey as a mother, devoting herself entirely to her children. According to Dona Armenia, the man God gave her was the one He took away. With this mindset, despite numerous difficulties, she chose to raise her children alone and never sought another partner. Armenia lived in the Vitória district of Dois Visinhos with her 73-year-old son, Milton. She was already very weak and had difficulty communicating and moving. It was reported that early in the morning on Monday, the 9th, the elderly woman became ill and was rushed to Pro Vida Hospital and then transferred to the Regional Hospital in Francisco Beltrao, where she died on Tuesday afternoon.
Armenia was the oldest person on Earth. After her death, Tomiko Itooka of Japan became the oldest person on Earth. Armenia lived 116 years, 3 months, and 26 days, or 42,487 days.[2].
Personal life
After seven years in Campo Morão, the family moved to the region now occupied by the then-young municipality of Dois Visinhos. Soon after, Armenia lost her husband. Now a widow with nine children to raise, she continued her journey as a mother. In an interview with reporter Islan Roque, Armenia said that the man God gave her was the one He took away. With this in mind, despite numerous difficulties, she decided to raise her children alone and never wanted to look for another partner.
Wake
The funeral took place at the SASF morgue, located in the San Francisco di Assis neighborhood, opposite the Northern Municipal Cemetery. A funeral mass was held on Wednesday, the 11th, at 3:00 PM, followed by burial at the Northern Municipal Cemetery.
