Sabela Arias Castro (July 24, 1969) is a Spanish painter and cartoonist. She was born in Lugo on July 24, 1969 and studied Fine Arts at the University of Salamanca and the University of the Basque Country. His first exhibition was at 18 in Lugo. She is the creator of the vignettes of Historias de Icía and Avoa. He began to create them in 2003 and they were published from 2006 in Terras de Santiago, later they will appear in El Correo Gallego until today. It is a conversation between a grandmother and her granddaughter in which they reveal their vision of life, not without a certain irony.

Art work[edit]

What unites the work of this author is the color that always appears as the protagonist.

Cuncas (1989)[edit]

In this series the protagonists are two, on the one hand the red and on the other the clay objects called "cuncas" in Galician.

Fear (1993)[edit]

Fear is a short series, made entirely in El Salvador in which an expressionist drawing is appreciated as well as the use of unusual materials such as chrome mercuro, earth, coffee, for example. The format of all these works is very small, adequate to the lack of material, and to the hardness portrayed.

Torques (1996)[edit]

These are works that describe these pre-Roman gold pieces: golden and blue torques that relax the retina of the omnipresent red of the work of Arias Castro

Rain (1998)[edit]

Perhaps this series, which has the name of "Rain, fog and other atmospheric glazes" is what teaches a more "Galician" palette. These gray and green works teach the landscape when you can not see it.

People (1987-today)[edit]

This series begins in 1987 and will be a constant in the work of the creator. Women and men that fill with color and offer a dance in space.

Windows (2003–2006)[edit]

Undoubtedly one of the series that has had the most impact. An urban landscape full of galleries that appear in Galicia and of color, usually red although some work will appear in blues and greens.

Everyday scenery (2006)[edit]

Work that extols the beauty of the everyday, which recognizes the portrait in small things, in normal gestures and not in major events. In this series, color is the protagonist, along with light and its shadow. This work is exhibited in New York, El Salvador, The Hague, Santiago de Compostela, La Coruña, among other places.

Conversations (2015-today)[edit]

In these art works the author begins a new way. On the one hand the presence of everyday life continues, while on the other hand the images appear without detail in regard to color and shape. Each piece of this puzzle has no value in itself, it is understood with the context. These works are of great color and incredible detail.

This text appeared for the first time in the individual exhibition galleries of the Ateneo Ferrolán 2005 And after seeing these paintings you approach me to ask me what this red, incarnate tone is for me ... And the truth is that I can not say that for My way of seeing the world this tonality may be nothing new to you, because "Sorgo rojo" is a film that I always remember fondly, or that it is the color chosen by Coca-Cola. Red is the color of virginal blood, of innocence ... You can see the full text on the artist's website.
