Artesia General Hospital (AGH) is a nonprofit community hospital located in Artesia, New Mexico, United States. Originally constructed in 1939 as Artesia Municipal Hospital with federal Works Progress Administration (WPA) and Public Works Administration (PWA) funding,[1][2] it is the primary healthcare facility serving Eddy County and surrounding communities in southeastern New Mexico.
The hospital is owned by the Artesia Special Hospital District, a public entity established by the New Mexico Legislature in 1989,[3] and operated under lease by Community Health Corp. It is licensed for 49 beds and designated a sole community provider under Medicare.[4] In fiscal year 2024, AGH reported $76.6 million in revenue according to IRS Form 990 filings compiled by ProPublica.[4]
The hospital's mill levy — a property tax levy first established in 1979 to fund hospital operations — has been a recurring subject of local civic debate. In June 2025, voters narrowly rejected a renewal for the first time in the levy's history; it was subsequently approved in the November 2025 general election by a margin of 1,657 to 591.[5][6] The levy generates between $4 million and $7 million annually for the hospital district.[7]
