Arthur Hayden Hughes
Arthur Hayden Hughes (born September 25, 1939) is a former American diplomat. He was the United States Ambassador to Yemen from 1991 to 1994 under George H. W. Bush.[1][2]
Biography
Arthur Hayden Hughes was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on September 25, 1939. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1961 and served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1963.[2]
From 1970 to 1971, he served as the State Dept. Representative for the U.S. Department of Defense, National Military Command Center. He also served as the Officer-in-Charge for Spanish affairs from 1977 to 1978. He then went on to become the Deputy Chief of Mission for Copenhagen, Denmark (1980-1983), The Hague, Netherlands (1983-1986), and Tel Aviv, Israel (1986-1989). From 1989 to 1991, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs before serving as the United States Ambassador to Yemen from 1991 to 1994. He then went on to serve as the United Nations Director General for the Egypt-Israel Multinational Force & Observers from 1998 to 2004.[2]
